According to the Advertising Association/Warc Expenditure Report, advertising expenditure in the UK reached a record high of £9,424million in the first quarter of 2015.
The growth of adspend in the UK has ultimately been driven by digital marketing. Internet spend in the first half of 2015 increased to £3,975million (13.3%), with mobile marketing contributing 79% of this growth. For the first time ever in the United Kingdom, mobile adspend broke the billion pound barrier in the first half of 2015 by reaching £1,079million – a growth of 52.1%.
Additional findings from Warc’s Global Adspend Database reveal that the UK are in poll position as Europe’s highest spender on mobile advertising and the third highest in the world, following the USA and China respectively. The digital surge in the UK has resulted in the fastest growth in advertising in four years.
Despite the growth rate of ad blocking, the digital advertising industry couldn’t be stronger at present and impressively, the UK’s adspend is forecasted to exceed £20billion in 2016, a rise of 5.3%.
